What are common demo class topics for teacher interviews?

Schools typically ask candidates to teach a 15–30 minute demo lesson on a topic pulled from the grade level and subject you're applying for. Common asks: for PRT — a phonics lesson or a story-based English class; for TGT English — a poem analysis; for TGT Math — a geometry theorem; for PGT Physics — projectile motion or wave optics; for PGT Biology — genetics basics.

Schools want to see three things: subject command, classroom engagement, and lesson structure.

Structure a demo class in five parts

  1. Hook (2 min): A question, image or short story tied to the concept.
  2. Objective statement (30 sec): "By the end of this class you'll be able to…"
  3. Core teaching (8–12 min): Explain, model, then involve students. Use the board.
  4. Guided practice (5–8 min): Ask students to solve/apply. Circulate, correct.
  5. Wrap-up (2 min): Recap, exit-ticket question, preview next lesson.

Common topics by role

  • PRT English: Phonics blend "sh", a short story with comprehension.
  • PRT Math: Fractions basics, place value.
  • TGT English: Poem analysis (unseen), figure of speech.
  • TGT Math: Pythagoras, quadratic equation.
  • TGT Science: Photosynthesis, states of matter.
  • PGT Physics: Projectile motion, refraction, EM induction.
  • PGT Chemistry: Chemical bonding, equilibrium.
  • PGT Biology: DNA replication, evolution basics.
  • PGT English: Prose analysis, rhetorical devices.
  • PGT Economics: Demand-supply, national income basics.
