How does IGNOU B.Ed admission work?

IGNOU offers a 2-year B.Ed through Open and Distance Learning for in-service teachers only. Admission is through an entrance exam held once a year, and candidates must have two years of teaching experience.

IGNOU's B.Ed is a 2-year Open and Distance Learning programme reserved for in-service school teachers. Admission is through the IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Test held once a year, and applicants must have at least two years of teaching experience. It is NCTE-recognised for the in-service route only.

Who can apply

  • You are currently working as a teacher in a recognised school.
  • You have at least two years of teaching experience on the date of admission.
  • You hold a graduation degree (50% for General, 45% for reserved categories).

Admission process

  1. Notification — released around January each year on ignou.ac.in.
  2. Entrance exam — objective test covering general awareness, teaching aptitude, subject and language.
  3. Merit list and counselling — based on entrance score.
  4. Fee and enrolment — around ₹55,000 for the full 2-year programme (subject to revision).

What to know before applying

  • IGNOU B.Ed is not open to fresh graduates without teaching experience — the regulation is strict.
  • The degree is valid for TGT, PGT and state teacher recruitment, provided you meet the in-service condition.
  • Contact classes and workshops are held at regional study centres; attendance is compulsory.
