Who can appear for the CTET exam in India?
Anyone with a graduation degree plus a recognised teacher-training qualification (D.El.Ed, B.El.Ed, B.Ed or equivalent) can appear. Minimum marks vary by category.
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), conducted by CBSE on behalf of the Ministry of Education, has two papers:
- Paper I (Classes I–V): 10+2 with 50% (45% for reserved) plus D.El.Ed / B.El.Ed / B.Ed (for special conditions).
- Paper II (Classes VI–VIII): Graduation with 50% (45% for reserved) plus B.Ed or equivalent.
Final-year training candidates may also apply. There is no age limit and no fixed number of attempts — the certificate is now valid for life (per 2021 revision).
Relaxations of 5% marks apply to SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates. State-level TETs have their own criteria; CTET is accepted by central-government schools (KVS, NVS, CTSA) and most CBSE-affiliated private schools.
