Who hires home tutors, and why
Indian parents hire home tutors for four main reasons: (a) their child is falling behind and needs remedial 1:1 time, (b) they're prepping for a board year (Class 10, 12), (c) they're prepping for entrance exams (JEE, NEET, CUET, boards), or (d) the child is switching boards (State to CBSE, CBSE to IB). Understanding the parent's underlying goal doubles your renewal rate.
The typical assignment is 3-5 sessions a week for a full academic term. Renewal happens when the child's next term-test score visibly improves — so structure your teaching around that measurable outcome, not raw hours.

How to build a full home-tutor caseload
Aim for 4-6 regular students at 4-6 hours a week each — that's a full-time home-tutor income at metro rates. Recruit them from three channels in this order:
(1) School Jobs India live listings — parents who post explicit tutor briefs. (2) Word-of-mouth — always ask satisfied parents for one referral before the term ends. (3) Local coaching-centre overflow — many centres route their "we don't handle 1:1" leads to preferred tutors.
Keep 1-2 discounted "anchor" slots for a well-connected family (a school principal's kid, a doctor's kid). Referrals from those anchors typically fill your remaining slots within 3 months.
