Schools with split sections. CBSE/ICSE schools running a morning batch (Classes 1-5) and an afternoon batch (Classes 6-12) often hire subject teachers for just one shift. Common in Delhi NCR, Mumbai suburbs and Bangalore.
Coaching institutes. Aakash, Allen, FIITJEE, VMC and dozens of local test-prep centres run evening batches (5-9 pm) and full-day weekend batches — perfect for teachers with a day job or a young child.
International schools with half-day IB PYP. The IB PYP programme runs 8 am-1 pm, and many international schools hire specialist teachers (Art, Music, Dance, PE, Foreign Languages) on 4-half-days-a-week contracts.
Ask for pay per half-day, not per hour — schools budget in half-day blocks and it's easier for HR to sign off. Push for at least 60% of the equivalent full-time salary, since your teaching hours are usually 60-70% of a full-timer's.
Get the PF opt-out or opt-in in writing. Confirm exam-invigilation duty is either paid separately or excluded. Confirm term-break pay: some schools pay for term breaks, some don't — this can be 15-20% of your annual take.
