How to get hired as a PRT in India

1. Confirm you meet the PRT qualification bar

   Most private CAMBRIDGE schools ask for a graduate degree in the subject you'll teach plus a B.Ed. Government and Kendriya Vidyalaya roles additionally require CTET/TET (Paper I for Classes 1-5, Paper II for 6-8). International-curriculum schools accept IB or IGCSE certification in lieu of B.Ed. If you don't have a B.Ed. yet, D.El.Ed. is acceptable at most primary and pre-primary roles.

2. Shortlist 15-20 schools in your city that fit your profile

3. Prepare a 20-minute demo class

   Almost every PRT shortlist ends in a demo class. Pick a topic from the school's current textbook, plan a lesson with a clear objective, 3-part structure (starter, main, recap) and one differentiation activity. Rehearse until you can teach it without notes. Schools reject strong candidates every year who "knew the topic" but couldn't hold a class of 30.

4. Apply during the right hiring window

   Applications submitted 4-6 weeks before the Mar–May peak land while schools are still shortlisting — off-cycle applications often arrive after decisions have been made. 5. Follow up the smart way
